Fed: Ansett expect to settle airport lease today

Ansett administrators are confident of finalising a lease for the use of Sydney airportas their top lawyer LEON ZWIER flies to Sydney to prepare to sign the deal.

An administration spokesman says the deal is tantalisingly close as the administration'steam of lawyers go through the fine print of a proposal today with lawyers for would-beowners Tesna.

The Sydney Airport domestic terminal lease has been described by administrator MARKMENTHA as the jewel in the Ansett crown.

During negotiations for the sale deal, Tesna and administrators expected a straighttransfer of leasing arrangements.

But the Sydney Airports Corporation wasn't privy to sale talks, and later insistedon a number of changes to the conditions, including a bond and third party usage of emptygates.

The corporation has refused to comment on a timeframe for the lease agreement.
